INVITED COMPETITION
The facade design contains two distinct elements. The upper portion is made up of a hanging geometric unit: a vibrant sculpture in brushed steel overlooking Piazza Europa and Corso Brunet. This portion is able to change color in relation to the different conditions of the sky and contains vertical openings for light, air and nature. The base of the building consists of a frame clad in granite facing north and protected by continuous windows. The same material covers the inside of the arcades and the tall columns. The proposal takes up the subliminal urban memory of the surrounding through the re-proposition of the mass geometry of the existing building and the empty – full rhythm present in the adjacent buildings. The sustainability strategy of the new façade considers, in addition to the constructive aspects of prefabrication, the strong insulation of the external walls. The set back position of the new windows allows them to open in normal rain conditions and allows the adoption of filter plants placed outside the frame in the shape of small cascades of water. These essences are able to purify the outside air.
