COMPETITION – UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Changchung’s Youth Center project is the winning entry of an international tender which MVarchitects took part by invitation of professor Thomas Herzog. The building, currently under construction, will be a
polyfunctional system containing a science museum, conceived together with university classrooms,
hospitality areas and spaces for sport activities. All functions will be located next to the city airport in a three stories 90.000 sqm linear volume located on the side of an artificial lake .
The formal metaphor of this project is a giant “YB – 49 flying wing” airplane, clearly inspiring the big and
dynamc metal roof of the pavilion and providing the space for exhibition and university functions . This
important system, directly facing the water, will host naval and terrestrial machines, planes, prototypes
closed by a transparent high wall facing north.
On the side of this pavilion a south wing portion contains the university multi-storey complex reaching the roof level. Sport functions are located inside a parallel lower volume connected to the classrooms through pedestrian bridges. Transportation for public and students will be provided by a subway line, reaching the inside of the building, a parking system for public and students will also be build to the underground level.
