Wright’s passion for cars
Marco Visconti recently come across the perfectly restored 1955 Mercedes SL Gullwing, originally owned by Frank Lloyd Wright. The architect received the car in 1957 as a partial payment for his project of the Hoffman showroom at 430 Park Avenue in Manhattan (demolished in 2013). The spiral element of Wright’s work would be seen again on a much grander scale in the Guggenheim Museum. Present owner is an Italian collector, note original Taliesin symbol on left side window.
