“LA STAMPA” CONFERENCE ROOM Turin
PROJECT
This facility marks the completion of the printing words at Via G. Bruno in Turin. A conference room and visitors’ show room have been established within a steel and glass cylinder protected by a crown of movable sun shields. The cylindrical form is derived from the existing carpark ramp, which is also accessed from Via Giordano Bruno. Indeed, the entire construction sits on top of the last floor of the multilevel carpark, which facilitates heavy vehicle access. The structure consists of two parallel, horizontal ‘wheels’ separated by a corona of small pillars located along their perimeters with the upper ring supporting the roof, while the lower one distributes the load onto the car park. With the aim of screening out the less attractive urban elements surrounding the building, moveable perforated aluminium screens are positioned so as to filter the views from inside. In this way, the Turin hills and sky are visible above the roofline. Form a distribution point of view, the circular plan is divided by moveable partitions into two main segments; the first contains an entrance hall linked to the second section, a conference room. The complex is also connected to a printing press pavilion through a block of masonry construction that contains a corridor, offices and services. A central pylon supports the roof and new vertical signage.
